Bosons Wave by Bob Freeman

Bosons Wave is the third installment in the LiftShip Story. Author Bob Freeman keeps the excitement and adventure going in his latest science fiction novel. Readers new to the series may mistakenly roll their eyes, thinking it’s another book with a Star Trek theme, but nothing is further from the truth. Bob Freeman’s imaginative series takes readers on an unforgettable adventure while also touching on some subjects left out by mainstream science fiction novels and TV shows.

Bosons Wave continues the story of Captain Graceita and her crew. The canines and octopus are also back to delight readers. With his trademark sense of humor, Bob Freeman reminds us of the importance of laughter even when there is a potential war on the horizon. The HiveMother at the Heliopause is fighting with the HiveSisters in the Heliotail. A bioGel war seems to be looming as the Solar Sail crew on the Bosons Wave, led by Heliospheric Navy’s Caption Herb, an Eastern mountain gorilla, tries to fight algae rocket ships for control over the bioGels.

One side is supported by weapons and tools that include a tomato. The other side is a collective of angry bioGel computers and not-so-intelligent algae. Suddenly, Captain Graceita and the Heliospheric Navy find themselves in the center of the brewing trouble.

The leading edge of the heliopause sparkled as cosmic rays, photons, dust particles, and dark energy hit Sol’s cold border. It was the void, but not empty. The sentients on the stabilized asteroid managed the maturation of young gels for the bioGel Consortium. Gellact/6 headed toward the cafeteria to pick up his crew and find the assignment for the work session. His comm flashed the active work color, orange this time, and the selected worker’s comms lit up to match. “OK, you workologists, clear up your plates and join me at the upper airlock ready room.” It was the usual assortment of primates, canines, and octopuses, able to handle any situation they might find. Each member was dressed in their spacesuits, ready to work. The bulky suits, with a block of gray goo in a backpack, hid their features. Only arm length, count, and uncovered heads indicated the sentient’s species.

Freeman is taking fans back to Sol. Bringing back beloved characters, he is also introducing readers to new ones in Bosons Wave. His expressive writing style draws readers immediately into the story and makes it easy to believe an octopus can make an effective workologist. Don’t forget about the canines or the gorilla captaining a starship.

Bosons Wave is impossible to compare to other science fiction books. It, and the first two installments in the trilogy, are set apart by both the author’s humorous writing and descriptive text. If you are searching for something fresh and new in the genre, the H2LiftShip series is worth checking out.

4 out of 5 stars

Captain Grace and her crew are back with more adventures. Greedy pirates, dishonest traders, weird green ships, mutinous bioGels, rats, squirrels, and more make up this tale.

Captain Grace's ship, the LunaCola, has garnered much interest. However, not all interests are positive. This results in several changes. We also look at the bioGel factory, Tang's expertise at poker, Jack's never-ending quest for more "jerky," and Grace's passive-aggressive parents (mostly passive in Mykolas' case).

The crew encounters several difficulties and will need some teamwork, math, jerky, and help from unexpected allies to make it through. However, a hidden, overlooked threat surfaces, and a solution must be found before it is too late.

H2Liftships - Vol 3 - BosonsWave by Bob Freeman is (as it states in the title) the third volume in the H2Liftships series. The story combines science fiction with fantasy, humor, and action, and the result is a wild, unpredictable tale that will keep you on your toes until the end.

This is the most unique story I have ever read, bringing a fresh, exciting take to the space exploration theme. I love the creativity infused in every word. The book constantly diverges from what is expected or predicted. The concept of the bioGel generation, growth, and maturation is fascinating. The book provokes the reader to imagine different possibilities. This is my favorite aspect of the book.

The characterization of the book is one of its best qualities. The characters are unique and endearing, and their interaction is always entertaining. Each one, with its distinct character and behavior, makes the scenes come to life. I especially love Jack because of his unending supply of bad ideas and ability to take any conversation into a weird tangent. His friendly spats with his fellow crew member, Tang, bring a humorous feel to the book and give it a warm quality not usually found in science fiction.

I loved the author's consistency throughout the book during the world-building process. The author took a straightforward, detail-oriented approach that would answer any questions before they came up.

There are a lot of grammatical errors in the book; they are enough to be distracting. I recommend that this book be re-edited.

Muddling through some technical aspects of the book might reduce some reader's enjoyment. However, it is okay if you enjoy complex books. Apart from that, there is nothing to dislike in this book. Considering the number of grammatical errors, I rate the book four out of five stars. I recommend it to lovers of complicated science fiction and fantasy.

What a great story in H2LiftShips- Bosons Wave by Bob Freeman. This is the third book in the H2LiftShips series, which tells stories that are not just out of this world, but mashes real hard science and science fiction together. This story is like the others, where it reads both technically and entertaining, filled with depth and curiosity. Fill with dysfunctional families, loads of flaws such as gambling, and backstabbing, this story takes the reader to a new destination. Entering a war not of their making, there are new enemies and allies to consider. I am a definite fan of this author! It is always an honor to read this author's books. This author is a great storyteller. This story was very unpredictable. This read is so engrossing that it brings you right in the middle of the story. This read is more than just words on a page. Review of Bosons Wave by Bob Freeman

The last dance of the H2Liftships series comes to a climax in a riveting tale, which literally sums up all of the throbbing excitement of the previous two novels in the last one. Again Bob Freeman proves to be a master chef in the art of cooking up pulsating storylines and drawing exciting emotions from them.

Bosons Wave, the tale of Luna Cola, Captain Lucerne's adventurous ship's final escapades in space involves right about everything you could think of and some more. Graciela and her crew of close friends must scrape and weave their way past inter-galactic pirates, being used as an alternative naval transport ship, and even a space war while at it. With the introduction of even more interesting characters such as their arch nemesis, Captain Hierro, leader of the notorious galactic pirates, who pillage and wreak havoc with such bravado. Now Graciela must pit all that she's learned from her time serving on her father's merchant ship, and her training at Luna Academy, in a climatic duel with Hierro and hope to see her crew and her ship to victory and survival.

One remarkable thing about Bosons Wave, is the author's successful ability to tell a thrilling Sci-fi story, while maintaining the utmost simplicity and relativity in the language across the book. This is a clear indication that Sci-fi novels can also be as interesting as any adventure fiction, and be no less of a mind-stimulating book, which is expected of such a genre. The remarkable character development and the plot twist are once again seen in this book, as Bob proves again and again, that he's not only a master in his art, but one whose style ought to be a standard.

Bosons Wave and the H2Liftships series is a must read for everyone, regardless of what genre of literature you subscribe to. Bob Freeman ticks all of the boxes not once, but three times. He stretches our imaginations and intellect as all Sci-fi writers should, but he also satisfies our desire for action and adventure as well. Then there's the humor and intrigue that will have you always turning the page, until you're done. It goes without saying, Bob Freeman has laid the marker down for fellow science fiction writers. The question now is, can they keep up?

really liked it

This book is expertly written. The author is controlling the way the test is written and presented to achieve an effect similar to Citizen Kane (the movie) - where it feels like so much time goes past but you understand exactly all the details because the author is very clever in their use of prose to illicit feelings, images and ideas. This book is overflowing with scientific accuracy and mumbo-jumbo at the same time making it really fun to read and great escapism. I don't think you need to read the previous books as I was able to piece things together but I heavily recommend reading those first if you are not used to dense prose. Excellent book - each book will get better and better.

BOOK REVIEW OF BOSON'S WAVE BY BOB FREEMAN 11/25/2022

by Anthionette Ejimofor

Just when you thought it couldn't get any better than it already is, Bob Freeman finds yet another way to enthrall our minds. Space pirates, naval deployments, and even an all-out galactic war. The thrill ride is endless.

Written in autobiography style, Boson's Wave is the story of Boson's Wave. It is the climax of the adventures of H2Liftships series flagship Luna Cola, now under the new name, Boson's Wave, and Captain Graciela Lucerne's fate at the hands of a roughshod pirate who she must outwit and outfight to achieve her aims and remain not just custodian of her ship, but her life too. How would Gracie and her ship's crew, comprising her best friends, go about confronting the hurdles ahead?

Just like in the previous books in the series, the author applies his magical touch adeptly in this. His ability to develop exciting and relevant characters, and seamlessly merge them with other existing characters shows once more in the person of Captain Hierro and his history with Mykolas, which made his standoff with his daughter, all the more mouthwatering. Another brilliant thing about Boson's Wave was how every character took centre stage in the story, playing relevant roles, and all of this whilst taking nothing away from the story's key characters. This was no mean feat by the author, especially with how much relevance these key characters held in the book, as well as across the series.

One noteworthy feature of Boson's Wave, and it is the same with the two preceding it, was that the storylines, though beautifully interwoven, were independent stories in their own regard. Indeed the stories complement each other, making the series a must-read, however, the independent stories are also a reader's delight, for lovers of science fiction, adventure, action, and drama.

There is no questioning the talent of the author. The H2Liftships series is a novelty in the Sci-fi genre and one that would soon become a yardstick for measurement. Bob Freeman did more than write us a beautiful mind-stimulating series, he left us a legacy. One that I am pleased to have been privy to. To be clear, this is yet again a perfect rating of 5 out of 5 stars from me.

H2LiftShips - Bosons Wave Oct 2022

Book Review of "Bosons Wave" by Nwaogazie Goodness

Bob Freeman's Bosons Wave is the third and final book in the H2Liftships series. It is the sequel to Beyond Luna and A Backstory and of course, the conclusion of the storyline.

Much like the previous books in the series, Bosons Wave is centered around the voyage of the ship Luna Cola (which would be renamed Luna Bowling and eventually, Bosons Wave) and her crew, under Captain Graciela Lucerne's leadership. However, Bosons Wave is the most exciting and adventurous book in the series, as it entails lots of action, intrigues, and thrilling plot twists, like Captain Graciela and Captain Hierro's mind games against one another, the threat of space pirates, and the war at the Hive. It was truly an interesting experience finding out how Bosons Wave weaved her way past all of these waves.

There is indeed a lot to love about this book. Bob truly brings all the characters to life and is fully bare in the story. Each character was magnificent in their role and importance in the book and the series as a whole. I enjoyed the personality of Graciela, as well as the fun-loving free spirit of Jack. But I was particularly happy for Herb, who eventually became a captain, and a fine one too. I also enjoyed the psychological rivalry between Captain Graciela and Captain Hierro, even though it was not for as long as I might have wanted.

As the final book in the series, one might assume that Bosons Wave wasn't difficult to follow through, because of having gotten a grasp of some of the complexities from the previous books in the series, but this is not entirely true. Bosons Wave is arguably the most interesting and uncomplicated science fiction novel I have read, and the only difficulty with truly enjoying the book would be if you haven't read through the entire series, which is only natural.

The author, without a doubt, leaves his mark in the science fiction world with this novel, and the H2Liftships series. Innovative, different, captivating, and pulsating. These would be the only befitting description for Bob's books. Bosons Wave is truly magnificent, and it is one that everyone who appreciates a great book would enjoy.

Bob Freeman's H2Liftships series is a gift to the mind and intellect. One that every lover of science fiction, knowledge, and adventure would find worth reading. Indeed, it would be a thing of pride to have them on your bookshelf.

H2LiftShips - Bosons Wave Sept 2022

Review by D. Donovan, Sr. Reviewer, Midwest Book Review

H2LiftShips - Bosons Wave recounts the ongoing story of Captain Graciela and the crew of the H2LiftShip LunaCola, whose secret mission involves a journey that embraces family and political drama in this third volume of an intriguing space opera adventure. It's set in a world that simultaneously feels both familiar and alien.

This is a world of space pirates and high-tech oddities, from algae rocket ships to an odd marriage between advanced technology and old-world devices—bioGel laser rifles and HAM radios, for example.

It's a scenario in which Captain Graciela and her crew battle the brainless algae which have joined with angry bioGel computers to challenge both sides with impossible situations.

From Jovian clouds integrated with DNA computers to gamblers who operate in a space casino against the backdrop of intrigue and conflict, Bob Freeman crafts an environment that will especially please prior series readers with more than just a fast pace.

Freeman takes the time to incorporate vivid descriptions into his world-building space opera, marking them with a wry sense of humor that overlays the action: "Mort ships, the transports for boxed cellular remains of sentients, preferred dark colors for the ship and sails. The color scheme wasn't required for the job, but it matched their ethos."

The descriptions of both heady clashes and everyday activities build a strong sense of place to contrast extraordinary events with ordinary life pursuits, but with a twist: "The 'gelTxt was moderately successful. She got the rope, nutrients, and some leads on fresh manure and grains. It was time to hit the regolith and search for some more supplies and tasty snacks for the long journey ahead. Captain Grace was in her element, picking out products to re-sell, for a serious profit. She was looking for bargains and kept away from the central storehouses."

Readers of the prior books in this series will find Bosons Wave a powerful survey of risky experiments, HiveSister concerns and sentient developments, and the crew's struggle to avoid disaster.

Ironic, delightful phrasing fosters a stream of ironic observation through the story: "The green monster's visit was not as friendly as it seemed."

The result is a fitting compliment to the other books in the series, expanding the escapades of this Navy crew's space-faring struggles as they tackle interstellar emergencies, family issues, and military operations with equal ability.

Readers seeking a rollicking good read from a modern space opera will find H2LiftShips - Bosons Wave a fine adventure that employs many futuristic descriptions to power its characters and their dilemmas.

I am a huge fan of creative sci-fi, but H2Liftships: Bosons Wave is by far the most creative thing I have read. The story is just so wild and wacky, it's hard not to get swept up in it. If you're looking for an original and thought-provoking read, this is the one for you!

Well written and dynamic characters, compelling plot and just an overall fun read!

The Reading Bub Review 08-14-2022

⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rating: 4 out of 5.

H2LiftShip: Bosons Wave by Bob Freeman is the third book in the H2LiftShip series and a sequel to H2LiftShips: A Back Story. In this part, the last part of the trilogy, most of everything comes together providing the readers with a coherent and a much-needed respite-full ending.

The writing was much better in this book and the world-building went up a notch as did the characterisation as well as pretty much every other aspect. I am now really looking forward to exploring other titles by the author in the near future.

I enjoyed this book a lot, and this series, on the whole too, and would definitely recommend it to all science-fiction readers and to sci-fi-fantasy readers too.

This book review is upon the book Bosons wave by the author Bob Freeman, this series comes in three volumes.

A thriller SCI-FI book is something that makes us uncomfortable, nervous in fact, but for some deep-seated reason we can't stop thinking about it. The thrill comes when we can't put it down and our favourite characters survive against all odds, rewarding our subconscious for sticking with the story despite our nerves. This is a story that will have your nerves pushing you to the edge of your seat.

Such an interesting and unique premise. Intense, engaging, exciting. It really held my attention (I read the whole book in four days). I felt the pacing of the book overall was good. I thought it was pretty cool to read words in Spanglish, French and Latin… The tensions between the main characters are well drawn and the story moves along at a fair clip in a way that readers are not left hanging about waiting for the next event.

The writing is clear as is the spelling and grammar, so no distractions, and the chapters aren’t very long, which means the author really knows how to tell a story, the characters are gritty, real and utterly believable. This clever adventure has many twists and turns, conflicts, intrigue and space battle sequences. The story is artfully crafted with palpable suspense as well as light-hearted mischievous humour. Overall, I have enjoyed the book. If you like space, action and humour thrown in the mix, buy this book.

I highly recommend this book and author. I could not see any similarities in the authors with any other science fiction author, which is awesome! It reads like hardcore science fiction set in a space faring dystopia. Giving it five big stars.

Captain Grace and her crew are manning an H2LiftShip through space – fleeing unsavory space pirates and shoring up the Navy with biogels, all while on the hunt for fresh clams, gambling, and jerky. The Boson’s Wave, and its several prior naming conventions, travel across space to trade and deliver valuable cargo from Earth and other locales in search of livelihood and profit. Using a mix of both antiquated and cutting-edge techniques to communicate and maneuver, the crew of the Boson’s Wave offer glimpses of the past while looking into the future. I enjoyed reading this third installment in the H2Liftships series and look forward to reading the others as well.

CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT

With this being the third installment in your series, I imagine there is much back story available in previous books regarding Captain Grace, Tang, Jack, and Octopus. I appreciate the female-gendered captain and showing the interactions with Mykolos and Pilar gives great insight into why she chooses to sail and captain her own vessel. For a captain, however, Grace asks a lot of opinion and feedback from her crew; she definitely seems more democratic comrade than an autocratic leader. I know it creates a good dialogue between the characters, but I think it makes her seem a bit weak. The very human trait of talking to herself in an empty room definitely sets her apart from the other sentients.

I really like the ideology of the octopus being the intellectual of the group – it tied in nicely with all of the background from chapter two.

Tang is a very versatile character – able to commiserate with Jack and still be wise enough to grasp the how and why of what maneuvers and schemes Grace plots with sailing maneuvers as well as a bit of subterfuge to offload cargo.

Jack was a bit more difficult to take; with the exception of some of his crew duties, he’s treated as a classic “dumb dog” with stereotypical traits like a short attention span, desire for food, etc. The dogs playing poker reference is a nice touch, however.

Other characters came in and out at different points, and sometimes their relevancy escaped me. In chapter 8 you introduced Paquito the Chihuahua and he showed up again in chapter 10. A lot of the back and forth about Jack looking for jerky and Paquito trying to recruit him, I didn’t really see how it was germane; I Understood chapter 8 but 10 felt a little disconnected. I understand they were gambling and looking for jerky, but the drive to recruit when nothing came to fruition seemed like a lot of wind-ups and no pitch. When Chapter 44 and Chapter 55 were introduced, I didn’t really see the need for them and their stories; to me, it interrupted the flow of movement of what was happening on the Boson’s Wave itself. It’s possible you’re setting them up for future story arcs – I just don’t really understand their place in this book.

PLOT

The story is really well fleshed out; I appreciated the first 10 chapters offering the history of how they got where they are. Those first chapters offered me context so I can understand the crew makeup from different genus/species and the overall hierarchy of biogels/FirstFive/HiveMother. The story itself didn’t delve too far into the hierarchy but the mentions made sense after reading the first chapters. With so many details and pivots, it was very helpful.

One of the misses for me was Hierro. I don’t know what part he had in the previous books, but it seemed like he was being set up to either steal or take part in the piracy of the ship’s cargo. I envisioned him twisting his mustache, desperate to see what cargo Grace was carrying, and then he just seemed to fade away. Was it a potential intent to bring him along as a pirate himself, the Dr. Jekyll of the family friend?

After the hype of his help often and early in the book, I also expected to see more of Herb. Once the cassettes were brought to the Navy, I understood the admiral wanted Herb to join up with Grace and crew. There seemed to be a very long pause between that point and when he actually came aboard. I did think it really interesting that the Navy was looking at the solar wind sails rather than rockets. This was a pervasive theme throughout, that there are some older technologies (HAM radios, morse code) and vehicles (Spinnakers vs Rockets) that are still relevant and still serve a purpose to society. Not all of those throwbacks are good; I know that rats on ships are a given, but I think the story would have been fine without them. Lily Rose was another detail I went back looking for – where did she come from that she just showed up smuggled aboard in Tang’s fur? I still don’t know where she came from or why she was there aside from not liking snakes which ensured the departure of the rats.

Your book is really well-written and painted vivid imagery for me; I could picture everything from a bunch of animals in a gambling parlor to the myriad of colors on Sinensis Prime. Each of the characters, even ancillary, was given a good level of detail and description. The detail given to not only the characters but also the settings allowed me better to understand some of the terminologies that were either unfamiliar or only attributable to the story. The background on biogels told me how they came to be but then reading about their computational and informational usage helped me to understand them. Thank you for the opportunity to read this early version of your work, it was entertaining and enjoyable.
